I have designed logos for many of our clients, here are a few. Some logos reflect the product of the company, others are just unique designs. Along with the logo I usually design their stationary - letterheads, business cards and envelope.

Instruction Sheets

Many projects, and all of Loreals, require an instruction sheet. They are created for either the purchaser or for an assembly company charged with assembling the package and placing the products. Some clients require them to have detailed written instruction and illustrations and other only want illustrations. We can provide either type for packages and products we design or for those submitted by a client. The two instruction sheets shown above are for packages we designed for Loreal.

Product Design and Model Making

From a design sent by a client, we created a mechanical drawing for manufacturing and a model for the client to present. The model was made from an existing clear globe, cut and adjusted to meet the design criteria. Included was a well for the product (a jar) and a holder for graphic panel. The overall effect is that of a product floating.

Hillman Ready Readers

Hillman Ready Readers are pre-packed in different size trays. The design is a clean modern display reflecting the product. Designed to use wood finish shelves and a black square metal frame.

Evolution of a Package Design

Project name: Loreal Hi Golds Store Kit.
Products; 6 hair color cartons, 1 swatch book.
Client directions; Create a folding carton with a full sized window on front showing the swatch book. Marketing wants the front window to show as much of the swatch book as possible.

The first step is to plan the arrangement of the products, positioning them as the client requested and using the least material. Once the arrangement and the structure has been sketched out, the sample is created. The package is drawn, full size, on cardboard, cut out, scored, folded and glued. The sample is then sent to the client for approval. Once approved, a die line/mechanical is made. This is used to create the mechanical art and is also sent to the die maker. This ensures that the mechanical and the die cutting will match exactly.
When the art has been completed an H-P Digital print is made. The print is mounted to cardboard, cut out, scored, folded and glued to make a sample. This is sent to the client for final approval. With the final approval, the design is printed onto cardboard. The sheets are die cut, the carton blanks are run through a gluing machine, packed and shipped.

Skelaxin and Neo-Clip

Skelaxin sample dispenser for doctors offices. Single sample removal, spring pushed and refillable were the requirements.
Neo-Clip premium pen and note pad with a giant sized (removable) replica of the product. Also, a “Bracket Management System” for the Neo-Clip boxes and tool tray for a dentists office. The storage sections are stackable and wall mountable.
All three projects were produced by injection molding.

Creative Magazine

Holtzman Design projects have been featured on 3 covers including the Hershey’s Candy display which received an OMA Gold Award. The others are, the Canon underwater camera display that featured a bubbler making the camera look like it was really under water. And, the Five Brothers wood display. The display is made of stackable trays that have the look of vegetable crates.

Besides packaging, I have designed injection molded and set-up box products, brochures and collateral material.

Loreal Box Design

Here are some of the many structural designs created for Loreal. Their products are varied, different sizes and shapes, they are positioned according to a plan supplied by Loreal. They like to keep the same basic designs for the outer boxes. The material is usually E Flute corrugated for the box and interiors.
With each project I supply Loreal with a prototype sample, mechanical/die line (which also goes to the die maker) and an assembly instruction sheet. Additional samples are made by hand, for small quantities, or CAD.

I will be sharing projects I have done in packaging, structural and graphic design, display and product design. I will also include other information about designing and manufacturing. Including sources and resources.

The first project is for the Myoko Eyewear Display. Myoko is offering reading glasses in optometrists offices. They wanted a display that would feature the 5 colors of frames and the matching case. They wanted a high-end look since they are competing for visibility among the many other frames offered in the optometrists office. This display is made of metal with a lithograph label. Holtzman Design handled the entire project, the concept designs, renderings, graphics, prototype and the manufacturing.
